Minimally Invasive Specialties

Transaxillary Robotic Thyroidectomies

Dr. Andy Chung is the first surgeon in Dallas to be trained on the da Vinci robotic thyroidectomy.  da Vinci Thyroidectomy first and foremost provides surgeons with a superior tool and technique for thyroid surgery. It also gives patients a surgical option that eliminates all visible scars. With open techniques, surgeons strive to make the incision as small as possible, which may compromise their exposure and ultimately visualization of the operative field.  With da Vinci, not only are the cosmetic results excellent, the surgical platform enables potentially better results than are possible even with open surgery.

For more information about this procedure or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Andy Chung or another of Dallas ENT Group’s fine surgeons, please call 972-566-8300.

Balloon Sinuplasty

Sinusitis is one of the most common chronic health problems in the U.S., afflicting 37 million Americans each year.  Patients suffer headaches, congestion, fatigue and other symptoms.  This condition significantly impacts an individual’s physical, functional, and emotional quality of life.  Historically, sinusitis patients were limited to two treatment options: medical therapy such as antibiotics and topical nasal steroids, or conventional sinus surgery.  In lieu of a desired surgical treatment, approximately 900,000 patients each year elect to live with painful sinus conditions.

The Balloon Sinuplasty is known to have an 85% success rate of symptom improvement in all patients.  The procedure is simple; a small, flexible balloon catheter is placed through the nostril into the blocked sinus passageway.  The balloon is then inflated to gently restructure and open the sinus passageway, restoring normal sinus drainage and function.

Advanced Surgical Procedure to Eliminate Sleep Apnea

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a very common and dangerous condition.  For individuals who cannot tolerate the CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure), or would simply like another option; Dallas ENT Group can help.

As part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors in Dallas, The Surgical Institute for Sleep Apneawas formed so that patients can see multiple specialties of surgeons at once to determine the best treatment option.  Dr. Timothy Trone, Dr. Tom Hung, and Dr. Andy Chung of the Dallas ENT Group offer a tongue and hyoid suspension procedure which has shown a 78% success rate in resolving obstructive sleep apnea.

Transoral Laser Microsurgery

Dallas ENT Group offers a sophisticated and minimally-invasive procedure called Transoral Laser Microsurgery to remove tumors from the throat and neck.  A diagnosis of cancer of the mouth or throat can be especially devastating. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other surgery options to treat the condition can dramatically alter facial appearance and threaten the ability to swallow, talk, eat, smell, taste, hear and even to breathe normally.

This sophisticated procedure does not require cutting through the skin and neck muscles; the procedure is completed through the mouth and allows patients to be discharged from the hospital faster, the cancer is controlled more effectively, and the throat and mouth functions are preserved more effectively.

Dr. Andy Chung’s expertise has been acknowledged through his numerous invitations to be a guest lecturer in a course that teaches Transoral Laser Microsurgery to students at Washington University.
